Syndication in Action: A Real-World Example
The Podcast
Pastor Michael Stevens of Grace Community Church in Lynden has been producing a weekly podcast called "Faith & Community Conversations" for the past year. The podcast features conversations about faith, community service, and interviews with local community leaders. He records episodes every Thursday and publishes them to his podcast hosting platform on Friday mornings.
The Partnership
After applying to the Lynden Radio Syndication Program, Pastor Stevens meets with our team to discuss his content and scheduling needs. We identify that his faith-focused podcast would be ideal for our Sunday morning slot, reaching listeners who might be interested in spiritual content as they start their day. Together, we agree on a syndication schedule of 8:00 AM every Sunday.
The Technical Setup
Pastor Stevens provides access to his podcast RSS feed, which our system automatically monitors for new episodes. Each new episode is downloaded to our broadcast server on Friday afternoons, processed to ensure consistent audio levels and broadcast quality, and scheduled for Sunday morning airplay. Custom intro and outro segments are added to the file, introducing the show and identifying it as part of Lynden Radio's Community Voices program.
The Broadcast
Every Sunday morning at 8:00 AM, "Faith & Community Conversations" automatically airs on Lynden Radio. The automation system handles all technical aspects of the broadcast, including transitioning smoothly from the previous program. The audio quality is consistent with our station's standards, and listeners tune in regularly for Pastor Stevens' insights and interviews.
The Results
After three months of syndication, Pastor Stevens has seen a 40% increase in his podcast's audience. He's received positive feedback from church members who appreciate being able to listen on their radio during their Sunday morning routines, and he's connected with new community members who discovered his content through Lynden Radio. The church has also seen increased interest in their community service initiatives that were discussed on the podcast.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any cost to participate in the syndication program?
No, our syndication program is completely free for content creators. This is a volunteer-based, non-monetized initiative designed to support our local community and provide a platform for diverse voices. We believe in the power of community media and are committed to making it accessible to all.
What technical requirements do I need to meet for my podcast?
We recommend audio files in MP3 format with a bitrate of at least 128 kbps for optimal broadcast quality. Episodes should typically be between 25-55 minutes to fit within our programming slots. We can work with you on audio quality if needed, but starting with clear recordings will ensure the best sound on air.
How frequently do I need to provide new content?
Most of our syndicated shows air weekly, but we also accommodate bi-weekly or monthly schedules. Consistency is important for building an audience, so we ask that you commit to a regular production schedule that works for you. If you need to take a break, simply let us know in advance.
What types of content are you looking for?
We welcome a wide range of content that serves the interests of our local community. This includes discussions on local issues, education, faith, music, arts, business, history, environment, and personal stories. The key is having a connection to Whatcom County and providing content that informs, entertains, or inspires our listeners.
Can I include music in my podcast?
You can include brief musical elements (intros, transitions, etc.) that you have the rights to use. Due to broadcast licensing requirements, we cannot air podcasts that contain commercial music unless you can provide documentation of proper licensing. Original music from local artists is encouraged, provided you have permission to share it.
Will I receive feedback or analytics about my broadcast?
We provide monthly reports with general information about listenership during your time slot. While we can't track individual listeners, we can share overall trends and any direct feedback we receive from our audience. We also encourage listeners to connect with you through your own podcast platforms.
Do I retain the rights to my content?
Absolutely. You retain full ownership and rights to all your content. Our agreement simply gives Lynden Radio permission to broadcast your podcast during the agreed-upon time slot. You're free to distribute your content through any other platforms or media outlets as you wish.
